An executive of Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed to Automotive News that the new Jaguar XE will be the first model of the British brand to be manufactured in China. We do not know when, but we know where. The Jaguar XE will be manufactured at the same facility in Changshu in which assemble the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport since October through the joint-venture created with Chery.
Producing in China is a very important step for Jaguar, which wants to expand in this growing market. Manufactured locally helps the car more competitive, because there have to face high import tariffs and labor is cheaper. Jaguar is expected to finish 2014 in China with 20,000 units compared to 80,000 Land Rover. 2015 want to grow considerably and trust the Jaguar XE for it.
For now the goal is set at 130,000 units in the Chinese market ahead of 2016. Next year will open an engine plant in the country. It is still early to know if the Jaguar XE will have a long wheelbase version of those particularly popular in China. Since all the competition offers these elongated versions, it is very likely see a XE L. To get to the idea of the extent to bet Jaguar by China, just look at the forecasts for 2017, which speak of 200,000 units globally.
But not here that runs the meteoric rise of the brand. At least as far as regards projections. 2020 is the major objective, that of achieving reach 850,000 units. To do this will be key new plants in China and Brazil and their new models in that period of time, which is expected to attract more customers to this iconic brand.
The Jaguar XE will also be manufactured in China
