DFKI Car taught to contract and move the crab (VIDEO)

Center of robotics DFKI Bremen created electric vehicle that can be compressed when parking and moving crab – sideways.

How to optimize parking in congested city that they fit as many cars? Center DFKI Robotics engineers from the German city of Bremen decided to create a vehicle that could be shortened when parking and moving sideways. The result is a machine EOssc2. With wheelbase of the car can be compressed, thus raising the double-body capsule. As a result, 2.5-meter-long vehicle becomes much shorter. Moreover, thanks to the movable suspension all four wheels can rotate up to 90 degrees.

Thus, EOssc2 can move sideways, crab, just squeezing between parked cars. It is noteworthy that the doors lifted up the guillotine in a manner that facilitates the landing-landing in cramped conditions. The movement of the car-crab gives four motor 4 kW – one in each wheel. They fueled lithium polymer battery. The car can accelerate to a speed of 64 km / h, which is enough for city driving.

Engineers DFKI Robotics Center has also offered a very interesting solution. To facilitate the drive out of town car EOssc2 can engage with each other, moving trains. Thus, drivers of cars that is attached to the lead vehicle, can relax without taking control of their cars.
