2014 marks 25 years since the release of the first generation 2016 Ford Explorer, one of the most famous brand names across the Atlantic. What better way to celebrate then with the continuation of the series, featuring a restyling of the current generation of this SUV at the LA Auto Show. New styling more technology and new engines are the ingredients for continued success.


Cosmetic changes are noticeable at first sight, with a completely redesigned front which uses a rather remote from the European models of righteousness. Features new fog lamps large and located above. Both daytime running lights, such as short-range and Fog turning to LED technology. On the side the changes are limited to the plastic bottom of the doors, with a new design, while the rear riders get a more modern look and rear diffuser with two trapezoidal exhaust outlets provides a sporty touch.

Inside the main lines of the design are maintained, although there are significant changes in the center console, which leaves out a touch-sensitive buttons to take a traditional buttons. The quality feel is also improved with an armrest for doors leather upholstery with contrasting stitching. The steering wheel gets a more modern design and table clocks as well. The soundproofing of the cabin has been improved with new gaskets for doors. The revised chassis and new suspension settings also improve ride comfort.

In the technology section 2016 Ford Explorer takes an important step forward. Their deployment begins with cameras front and rear parking with car wash, Park Assist improved parking facilities in unpacking battery, hands-free tailgate power (from the foot under the bumper), Sony premium audio system 500 watts or front grill activated to optimize cooling and to reduce consumption.


Other systems that complete the framework of the 2016 Ford Explorer is the adaptive cruise control with emergency braking, the warning lane departure, blind spot detection, cross traffic alert and short-long automatic lights.

The engine range is a significant development. Engine 2.0-liter Eco Boost access is replaced by the 2.3 liter riding the new Ford Mustang. Delivers 270 horsepower and 406 Nm of torque, representing a gain of 12.5 and 11% respectively compared to the outgoing model. The consumption of the new engine is not yet approved, but will be more efficient. The other two options correspond to the range 3.5-liter V6 engines in atmospheric releases of 290 horses and 365 EcoBoost in any case associated with six-speed automatic transmission.


The simplest models are front-wheel drive but 2016 Ford Explorer offers an intelligent all-wheel drive with torque on demand distribution. This system complements the Terrain Management System, a control system that adapts to different surfaces such as sand or mud with nine different steps of change, or even deals tension ABS operation.

With the launch of the new model 2016 Ford Explorer has been included in the range’s highest finish, Platinum (images), leading to the SUV to a new level. Some notable details are the bucket seats upholstered in perforated leather, interior wood trim and satin aluminum and heated steering wheel. This leather finishing is also present on the dashboard and on top of the gates. As for equipment not lacking elements such as Sony stereo, the wizard of involuntary change lanes or LED headlamps.
